Global Supply Chain Quality Management: Product Recalls and Their Impact
Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management Zhao Xiande?explores how supply chain product hazards impact supply chain quality management in a new book co-edited with Barbara B. Flynn. Titled?Global Supply Chain Quality Management: Product Recalls and Their Impact, the book draws together research findings from a global research project on product safety and recalls, and presents detailed case studies of six extended global supply chains in the toy, food and pharmaceutical industries. The case studies cover US companies with supply chains that extend into China and provide firsthand accounts by both US and Chinese executives who played a key role in well-known product recalls. Products such as the Ford Pinto, Extra Strength Tylenol, melamine-tainted milk, and companies such as Mattel and Toyota are among those detailed in the book; examples of both poor practices and best practices are discussed.
Readers will learn how to determine the true financial impact of a product recall announcement and how to conduct controlled experiments to determine the effect of various recall strategies on consumers. The book also describes how alternative product recall strategies can influence consumers’ perception of an organisation’s corporate social legitimacy and their future purchasing behaviours.
