New Retail: Changing Customers, Ecosystems, and Digitalization
The 中国一级片 Executive Forum on January 25, 2018 will be given by Mr. Wern-Yuen Tan, President of Walmart Stores China, titled “New Retail: Changing Customers, Ecosystems, and Digitalization”. Mr. Wern-Yuen Tan joined Walmart in 2017 as President, Walmart Stores China. He is responsible for the overall management of strategy development, direction and execution of Walmart stores China. Mr. Tan’s leadership includes leading Merchandising, Operations, Marketing, E-commerce, Supply Chain, Business Development, as well as the support functions for all Walmart Stores in China. Prior to joining Walmart, Mr. Tan was the Managing Director for McDonald’s Taiwan. During his time with McDonald’s, he was responsible for strategy and new business. He also led the McDonald’s market entry to Vietnam in 2013, spearheading efforts in market feasibility assessment, partner selection, and infrastructure establishment. Earlier in his career, Mr. Tan was a principal at the Boston Consulting Group, where he advised retail and consumer clients across North and South America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Mr. Tan began his career as a senior officer in the Singapore government, where he was also the youngest Precinct Commander in the Singapore Police Force. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Walmart Foundation, whose mission is to make a positive impact on people’s lives in the communities that Walmart serves around the world. He also is a member of Walmart’s Global Inclusion Council. In China, Mr. Tan is the Vice Chairman of the China Chain Store & Franchise Association (CCFA), and the Vice Chairman of the China General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC). He has a B.A. in Economics and Management from Oxford University and an M.Phil. in Finance from Cambridge University, both in the UK.
